At LifeGaines we accept private-pay clients only. This means we accept payment by cash, check, or credit card. More importantly, it means we do not bill or accept insurance. We do not participate in the payment or reimbursement process with insurance companies. This is an important boundary for us as an ethical obligation to our clients and us.
Insurance companies operate on a medical model, which means they require a diagnosis to confirm that you have “a medical necessity” to seek services and pay providers. This goes against our method of wellness-focused preventative medicine.
In order to go through insurance, we would have to assign you a diagnosis to be reimbursed for our work together. And even then, there are some diagnoses that insurance companies don’t consider debilitating enough to pay for. If given, the diagnosis would become a part of your medical record which could cause issues for you down the road.
Additionally, when insurance companies pay for your treatment, it also means that their employees will audit your treatment plan. We believe that you have a right to the confidentiality of your medical records.
